Tuesday 2nd April and Friday 5th April, 2024 10am-4pm Tutor- Sarah Cooke.

NB Participants need to book for both days at a cost of £110. This includes £10 materials.

‘Introduction to Tapestry Weaving- Part One’

In this 2 day course you will learn the basics of the traditional skill of tapestry weaving and how it differs from other weaving techniques. On the first day you will learn how to put a warp on a simple frame loom, plain weave, how to create shapes and patterning such as pick-and-pick. A few days at home to practise this, sets you up to develop your skills and learn more techniques and finishing styles on the second day. We aim to complete an attractive and unique wall-hanging.

All materials and equipment are provided, but you are welcome to bring your own yarns as well. At the end of the course you have the chance to buy the frame loom for £18, if you wish.

Please contact Sarah at sarahcooke80@btinternet.com to book.

Tuesday 2 April Tutor -Janet Humphrey

‘Eco-dyed fabrics to Stitch and Embellish’

Please note we will not be dyeing on the day. The workshop will begin with an explanation of how Janet dyes her fabrics, using plants from the garden, and as there are lots of different techniques, she will share what works for her.

You will be able to choose a piece of pre-dyed fabric from Janet’s stash to embellish with hand stitching, appliqué and metallic foils. Inspiration comes from the patterns held within the fabric……..leaves, grasses, seed heads or misty landscapes, whatever you can see.

Please contact Janet at janethumphrey58@gmail.com to book.

PLEASE ADVISE US IF YOU WISH TO BE REMOVED FROM OUR MAILING LIST

  1. ‘Gelli-Printing’ for Stitch with  Tutor – Jane Marrows

( Having learnt this technique you can then go on to use it  with other foliage – wherever you imagination takes you!

Wednesday 22nd November 10am-4pm

3. ‘Weaving with Waste’ with Tutor – Sarah Cooke

In this one-day course you will learn how to warp up a simple frame loom and do plain weave. Then you can experiment with weaving with all sorts unconventional materials – ones which usually get thrown away, such as plastic packaging, old cables and jewellery, fabric off cuts etc. You can make a colourful wall hanging, a table mat, a small bag or cover a note book. All materials are provided, but you can bring your own ‘rubbish’ if you want, and you can buy the loom at the end of the session if you choose.

Please email sarahcooke80@btinternet.com to book

4. ‘Japanese Rice Bag – with a twist’ Tutor- Michelle Jeffreys

This small lined bag with a drawstring top will be made out of patchwork pieced on your machine.

The twist is that you will use you own fabrics as inspiration to paint/stencil etc. some of the material used.

This decoration could be based on the colour or the patterns of the fabrics that you bring.

Additional hand embroidery will complement the final bag.

N.B. This class requires the use of a sewing machine.
