Artistic History
With a Fine Art background, colour and texture have always fascinated me, and through the years I’ve explored a range of crafts, such as stained glass and mosaic and patchwork and quilting, as well as painting. I came to weaving about 15 years ago, and can’t stop! Starting first with tapestry weaving on a small frame, then I bought a rigid heddle loom, and eventually an 8-shaft table loom which will keep me challenged for years to come
Artistic Practice
Currently I am experimenting with incorporating ‘waste’ materials into my weavings, materials which often get thrown away, and seeing how these can be combined with traditional weaving techniques. My materials include plastic packaging, old phone cables, off-cuts from a clothing designer and even baler twine, as well as conventional yarns. My strapline is ‘Weaving beautiful textiles out of rubbish’
I am keen to encourage others to take up weaving, and run courses in both Tapestry Weaving and Weaving with Waste. I am also a member of the Nottinghamshire Guild of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers.
