Artistic History
My great-great grandfather had a tailoring business and made army uniforms as well during the 1st world war. My mothers mum was an invisible mender, and my wonderful mum taught me to sew, I was 6 !!!
So later in life I decided this was my destiny and I made it to college, studying dressmaking and design and then further to Nottingham to do a degree in theatre design. I specialised in theatre costume, and over the last 40 years have been totally freelance, and have worked for Nottingham Playhouse making panto and period costumes, as well as making wedding outfits for everybody including dressing hats and making fascinators!!!
I also did a small stint at Nottingham Trent University teaching theatre costume.
I am now looking forward to doing my own thing and to see what I’m capable of with the LTG in my semi -retirement!
Artistic Practice
As you can imagine having made loads of beautiful dresses and costumes, I have quite a stash of leftover sumptuous fabrics, beads and threads! So I’m going to get some inspiration and put them to good use, and just see where it all takes me.
